Looking back through my life I have always had Mentors. I feel this is a crucial and optional role that anyone can have in his/her life. Crucial because they allow you to associate with a higher level or the next level(whatever that ‘next level’ is for you), they create opportunities for you to be creative, and they invest in you. Optional because you choose to have this role in your life.
I have alway formed mentorships with certain concepts. Some of these are face to face time, accountability, reading, observation, interviews (from me amd from them), projects to assist them on, shadowing, etc… It can be better when they know they are mentoring you and they have a system to do so(or you help them create a system). But they dont have to necessarily designate themselves as your mentor. Much can be gained from an observational relationship, where you just watch them and learn.
With my mentors I always have the objective in my mind to partner with them. This has happened almost every single time I have picked a mentor (those that I have personally met). Opportunites are in abundance and I personally prefer to partner with the most productive people I know. I have had many mentors in the past. Some of these have are Neal A. Maxwell, Les McGuire, Kevin Gallagher, David Dommer, and many more. As of today I have a few mentors, some with specific arrangements and some who are just friends. Some of these are: Rick Koerber, Coby Tippetts, Garrett Gunderson, Donald Trump, and Joseph Smith. Some of the mentors in my life I have never even met, and may never meet. Some have published material and some don’t.
The most powerful person in a mentorship is the one being mentored. Typically the mentors lives are great and they will keep on living the same with or without you, but you have a choice to live like them and be powerful. Make big agreements with yourself ( and them if possible) and keep them. Mentors are a great way to identify what you want to do with your life. All my success and future successes are a result from the mentors in my life. A big commitment: get a mentor.
